Making an Entrance

“Making an Entrance is her endeavour to initiate a conversation on the diversity of plants we share space with and illuminate the vital threads of co-existence interweaving living beings.”

Stemming from an interest in Man’s relationship with the natural world, Loh Xiang Yun produces dynamic forms of image-making which are informed by keen observation and careful execution. Over the years, she has created scientific botanical illustrations of herbarium specimens in pen-and-ink for scientific publications. In this exhibition, diagnostic features extracted from her drawings are enlarged and configured into large-scale prints of plant species and amalgamations of plant parts. Viewers are invited to explore this realm that emerged from Loh’s experiences of engaging with the world of botany through the perspective of a Scientific Botanical Illustrator.

Making an Entrance is her endeavour to initiate a conversation on the diversity of plants we share space with and illuminate the vital threads of co-existence interweaving living beings.
